Importance of Social Dancing
Get out there!
Once we feel confident in class, the next step

is often venturing into social dancing. Many dancers hesitate, waiting for the elusive moment of “being ready.” The truth is we will never feel completely prepared. It takes courage to step out into the wild and truly embrace why you started taking classes in the first place.
Over my 22 years of experience, I’ve noticed that those who engage in social dancing sooner tend to accelerate their learning. By discovering joy in the unknown, we see remarkable improvements in their skills. While there’s no secret formula for success, (besides consistency) connecting with other dancers outside the classroom undeniably enriches the experience.
The salsa scene today is thriving, with two events happening nearly every day of the week. The more you get out on the dance floor, the faster you’ll grow as a dancer. Social dancing helps you apply what you learn in class, build confidence, and discover new connections in the moment. Choose events that feel comfortable for your skill level and the kind of experience you want, then take that brave step onto the floor. You’ll be surprised how much fun it can be, and how much it enriches your learning back in class.
